What Is Love?

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.
(Mark 12:30-31 – NIV)

How is this possible? There are people who drive us nuts. Some are downright toxic. I know what we all consider love. It’s that feeling of joy and warmth when we are with or thinking of someone special. I believe this love we’ve been commanded to show our neighbors is a different type of love. He didn’t say, “Feel love for your neighbor.”

“For God so loved the world that He GAVE”…. I believe that the love God wants us to have for the world is a verb. An action. To give.

So, to answer the question of how to love others as ourselves, we must first ask, “How do I love myself?” I take care of my physical needs, my spiritual needs, and my emotional needs.

How can we show this self-love to others? Lend a hand when it’s needed, leave a bag of groceries on the doorstep of someone you know is having a hard time financially. Smile at people and you may have brightened their whole day. Be polite to everyone, whether you like them or not. Show some respect until they have proven they are not worthy of it. Then pretend anyway.

Actually listen to others instead of; answering our cell phone, reading a text message, or zoning them out because we think they are boring. Even if you’ve heard that story or complaint a thousand times, what does it hurt to show some common courtesy? It doesn’t cost anything, won’t hurt you, and can actually help you develop patience.

The Lord asked, “What hath darkness to do with light?” I don’t believe He expects or even wants us to subject ourselves to people who do evil, hurtful, things to us or the ones we love. Just show them that self-love when we must interact with them. And don’t forget to remind them that Jesus love them, too.

Which One Will You Choose?

I’m sitting here in tears tonight, thinking about the four young boys who were beheaded by ISIS in Iraq. My heart aches for their parents loss. What was this crime that brought the death penalty? They refused to deny Christ and accept Islam. They were given the choice of physical life, here and now, or death.

Make no mistake. Those boys knew what was coming. They could cheat death and renounce their faith. Why didn’t they?

Luke 17:33 tells us that, “Whoever seeks to save his life, will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.” In this passage we see our two lives in comparison. Our eternal living soul versus our human bodies. We have two lives. One mortal body that will definitely die and one immortal spirit that will live forever. If we deny Jesus, our savior, we will lose our eternal living soul. All just to live a while longer in our human bodies on earth. If we are willing to give up our mortal bodies for Jesus, our eternal soul will live forever in His presence.

Another point that brings this home is found in Matthew 10:32-33. “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men,him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.” “But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father, who is in heaven.”

Non-believers will say these children died because their parents taught them to believe in Jesus. That it was just foolish blind faith in something they learned in their home.

As a Christian, I know better. No matter how much a human “thinks”, something is true, when it comes to fear, life, and death, most would just give in to protect themselves. A born again Christian, filled with the Holy Spirit of the Almighty Living God, would not. He is the source of love, peace, faith, and courage. I have no doubt the Spirit of God so filled those boys with His presence that they had no fear. They knew He Is, the Great I Am, and were eager to enter His Kingdom. That boldness of spirit isn’t human. It’s God given.

Our world is in a terrible mess. Evil is running rampant. Violence, hate, greed, lust, hunger for supreme power is all around us. Sometimes it feels like the world will burn down around our ears. One day, you may have to make the choice that these boys were forced to make. Which one will you choose?

Are You a Christian?

If Jesus was sitting in your living room, would you invite Him to watch the movie you just bought? Would you read, “50 Shades of Gray”, out-loud, with Him sitting beside you? Would you laugh at that Sit-com, if He were in the room? Are you are allowing the secular world to set your standard of living?

If you dabble with these things and said, “No.”, you’re telling yourself a lie. He’s there, in your home, yet you feel no compunction in reading and watching filth. You don’t hesitate to invite these things into your home with your children and grandchildren watching your example.

When you read about or watch; excessive violence, sex, foul language, or witchcraft and the occult, you are desensitizing your spirit and heart to sin. You allow yourself to normalize immorality and forget right and wrong. You sin against your Creator and your own soul.

Have we Christians forgotten the price Jesus paid for our sins? Are we living a Holy life as He commanded us to do? He told us to be separate from the world. If we join the world, how do we expect His blessings, peace, and protection for ourselves and our homes?

As a Christian, I see our nation falling. Hard and fast. Terrorism, pandemics possibly via the illegals steadily crossing our border, financial collapse due to the massive overspending of our government, and the list goes on.

Persecution of Christians has already started. If we are too embarrassed to stand up for the Lord, if we don’t speak out now, how do we actually think we will stand up to real persecution, when it reaches us?

Truly we will reap what we are sowing.

Satan’s Fall

Why is God so displeased with pride? It tore our world apart and has caused suffering for all of mankind.

The first instance of pride wasn’t prideful man, but God’s most beautiful and powerful creature. His name was Lucifer, which means, Shining One. He was an anointed guardian Cherub. He was on the holy mountain of God. The Lord said he was blameless in his ways from the day he was created. He had the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. He was the most powerful angel God created.

What happened? He became puffed up with pride. He was beautiful, powerful, and thought he deserved the worship that is due God. He wanted the throne. He wanted to be God. He was filled with pride and ambition. He was very persuasive. He convinced 1/3 of the Angelic Host to fight for the overthrow of their creator, Almighty God.

God called this rebellion, caused by pride, sin. His name became Satan, which means the adversary, (enemy). The Devil, which means slanderer and false accuser. God calls him the, “Father of Liars”. Satan hates God and His creation, us included. He spends his time like a lion roaming to and fro across the earth seeking whom he can devour.

Why? Because he knows God loves us. God loved us enough to die for us. It grieves God to lose even one of us. The more people Satan can pull away from God, the more pain he causes. He lost the battle for God’s throne, but he hasn’t given up. He’s taking his kingdom right here, right now, and he wants all of us to turn from God and pay homage to him.

So, we have to choose. “Choose ye, whom you will serve.” Will we blindly follow the enemy through the very gates of Hell? Or, will we give up some of the pleasures this earth offers, humble ourselves, and give our all to the One who paved the way into His kingdom, with the blood of His beloved Son?

Creation Debate

I was reading an article, written by an atheist, about the Ken Ham, Bill Nye debate at the Creation Museum. The author was espousing that Bill Nye had lowered scientific standards with this debate, as the lowly science denying, Flat earther, Bible believing, masses are unworthy of notice. Not in those exact words, but that was my understanding of the authors’ point.

As I was reading the comments, below the article, I found that a great many people call my God a sky fairy with a magic wand. They mock people who are dumb enough to believe in Him. They say the Bible is a book of fairy tales and anyone who believes it is mentally deranged and dangerous. Believers are backwards, living in the Dark Ages, the cause of all prejudice and all the wars ever fought.

Bill Nye said, “I say that to the grownups, if you want to deny evolution and live in your world that’s completely inconsistent with everything we observe in the universe that’s fine, but don’t have your kids do it because we need them, we need scientifically literate voters and taxpayers for the future.”

So, if you teach your children that God is real, that He created us and has a purpose for our lives, they will not be scientifically literate voters and taxpayers.

What will happen to your children if you don’t teach them the Word of God? Look around you. Look at our schools, knock-out games, pop stars performing pornography on stage and in their videos. Violence, foul language, disrespect…. I don’t need to go on.

I posted a comment on that article. I wrote, “God said He created the world in 6 days. He is not a liar.” A man quickly replied, “Prove God exists.” I wrote, “Prove He doesn’t.” He replied, again, “It doesn’t work that way, you have to prove He does.” I asked, “Why?” He didn’t answer.

I think about that man. Did I give him a moment to question why I had to prove my God is, but it was against the rules for me to ask him to prove He isn’t? I hope so.
